2020 Election: Trump to Accept Official Republican Nomination in Jacksonville, Florida | Telemundo

President Donald Trump will no longer accept his party’s nomination as a candidate for the election in North Carolina, but in Florida.

This Thursday night, the Republican National Committee (RNC) announced the change of venue for the celebration in which the nominee for the presidential election officially becomes the candidate for the presidency.

“We are delighted to celebrate this momentous occasion in the great city of Jacksonville,” RNC President Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

“Florida not only holds a special place in President Trump’s heart as its home state, it is crucial on the road to victory in 2020. We hope to bring this great celebration and economic blessing to the Sunshine State in just a few short months. “

The change of location to one of the most important battlefields for the White House comes after the Committee expressed its disagreement with the North Carolina Governor, Democrat Roy Cooper, who has been reluctant to ease the restrictions by COVID-19.

The RNC had spent the past week exploring locations after Cooper rejected Trump’s demand to allow the convention to be held Aug. 24-27 without social distancing measures.

The convention at its new location is scheduled for the week of August 24 at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, which has an estimated capacity of 15,000 people. It was previously to be held in the city of Charlotte, where there are still plans in place for other activities of the celebration, due to contractual obligations between the city and the NRC.

Jacksonville is one of the largest cities in the United States led by a Republican mayor, Lenny Curry, who is an ally of Governor Ron DeSantis, who has eased restrictions on the coronavirus in the state.

DeSantis said in a statement that he was “honored” that Florida is the host state for the convention.. Meanwhile, Curry called it “a great victory” for his city.

In a RNC statement cited by the AP agency, Curry touted the “tremendous economic impact” of hosting the event. The celebration could generate at least $ 100 million in revenue for Jacksonville, or perhaps more.

The RNC has not released details on how they plan to organize this great event during the pandemic but, According to initial plans, precautions will be taken, such as temperature controls, social distancing, and the provision of disinfection stations.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee will probably host their respective convention virtually in August, to mitigate COVID-19 infections.

Wisconsin Governor Democrat Tony Evers said earlier this year they want to make sure “there is no stress on the public health system, nor does it put delegates and others who come to the convention in jeopardy.”

The former vice president Joe Biden is the Democratic pre-candidate with the best chance of being confirmed during the appointment as the nominee of the Democratic Party who will face Trump in November.
