Almost every child used to be able to swim, today it looks very different: every third child of primary school age has not yet learned to swim properly. The months-long closure of the swimming pools due to the corona pandemic made this situation even worse, according to a press release from the Würzburg district office.
?? The concern about the swimming ability of our preschool and elementary school children has been a concern of district politics for many years, so financial support for the swimming pool communities is a matter close to the heart of the district council, ”explains District Administrator Thomas Eberth. Only those who have learned to behave correctly in and around the water and who have been able to lay the foundation for safe swimming with the seahorse will enjoy the water for a lifetime. The city and district of Würzburg have therefore been working together for almost ten years as part of the ?? Tauch ?? project. not off ?? learn to swim? Get involved in strengthening swimming lessons in schools as well as in extracurricular activities.
The district of Würzburg not only supports the project ?? Tauch ?? not off, learn to swim ??, but again pour out a total of 200,000 euros in funding to the twelve communities, markets and cities that would call an outdoor or indoor swimming pool their own. The operators of the swimming pools should be supported in making an important contribution to the swimming ability of children.
The promotion of swimming ability among children and adolescents was launched as early as 2020. Depending on the number of children and young people, communities with their own swimming pool received financial support. This year, the district is promoting Aub with 9989 euros, Gelchsheim with 10 459 euros, Gerbrunn with 13 051 euros, Höchberg with 15 474 euros, Kirchheim with 12 081 euros, Neubrunn with 10 468 euros, Ochsenfurt with 25 973 euros, Reichenberg with 9633 euros, Rottendorf with 7175 euros, Thüngersheim with 15 901 euros, Uettingen with 16 266 euros and Veitshöchheim with 53 526 euros.
According to the press release, District Administrator Thomas Eberth emphasized how important he personally assesses the ability to swim. Especially this year, when many citizens went on vacation at home and sometimes went swimming in the Main, they noticed how important it is to move safely in the water. ?? Those who can swim well will not drown so quickly in the water. After all, we want to avoid swimming accidents as much as possible, he adds.
?? As a district, we are very grateful to all municipalities that provide a swimming pool, especially the often voluntary helpers who make the operation of the outdoor and indoor swimming pools possible in the first place ,? Eberth praised the commitment of the municipalities and Haupt – and volunteering. In addition, swimming is fun and enriches the positive attitude towards life for the whole family, for all ages.
With the indoor swimming pool in Ochsenfurt and the participation in the Wolffskeel swimming pool in the north of Würzburg, the district has also made investments to support learning to swim.
