Real city
Keep
There are stories that go beyond reality and that face the harsh summer in La Mancha. This has happened this week at the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival, the first stop of the Granada-born actress Carmen Ruiz-Mingorance. She has started a bicycle route with which he intends to vindicate the importance of culture and, especially, of the theater in these difficult times. The Yellow Jersey tour will take you through some of the most important theater festivals that are being held in different Spanish cities.
Carmen Ruiz-Mingorance, stage director, actress and producer, is a member of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain. The director of the Almagro Festival, Ignacio Garcia, has been in charge of receiving her at the Corral de Comedias and has been interested for this personal project on ruedas, who wants to be a metaphor of vicissitudes that they are suffering in the profession and a demonstration that “what has really gone wrong” during the pandemic.
His bicycle, or rather his tricycle, is called Thelma and has a small battery-powered motor to overcome impossible slopes of the Jaén geography. He travels without sponsors and looking for a living to sleep and rest in makeshift places along the route. Sometimes more difficult than anticipated.
The actress explained in Almagro that on this tour she is going to do daily stages of up to eighty kilometers and with it she has wanted to unify culture, sports and cycling. Above all, it aims to make visible the titanic effort that all theater professionals are making in their day to day to stay active. “In the situation that we have lived on hiatus due to the pandemic, the people of culture and theater in particular have been left quite orphans,” he replied in his appearance.
Almagro, an illusion
Ruiz Mingorance recalled that he last visited the Almagro Festival two years ago, directing the ONCE theater group in Granada. He has confessed that returning with this route was a goal and an illusion: «That Almagro is the first stop, for me it is a great boost to later go up to the north of Spain. Being here and visiting the Corral, seeing theater and strolling through the streets of Almagro is an enjoyment ».
The actress, who has called on the institutions to more decisively support the world of theater, has said that it is necessary to give the profession the importance it has in society and that the public itself is recognizing and vindicating.
The Yellow Jersey project, with more than 2,000 kilometers of route, will continue through festivals in Barcelona, Olite, Santander, Urones de Castroponce (Valladolid) and Mérida.
