After 2018 with Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron began his second state visit to the United States. The head of state wanted first of all to address the French community at the French embassy in Washington. Instead, the composition of the two presidents’ dinner was made public. The toasts will be made in French glasses with American rosé sparkling wine. On the meal menu: 200 Maine lobsters, parsley beef with potatoes, squash from the White House garden. For cheese, no French cheese on the menu. Jill Biden didn’t want that. The two presidents will be entitled to American cheeses such as an Oregon blue that won the World Cheese Championships in 2019, California fresh goat cheese or Wisconsin cheddar. For dessert the Heads of State will taste an orange cake, toasted pears with citrus sauce accompanied by ice cream. The meal will be washed down with a 2018 Californian Chardonnay, a 2019 Cabernet-Sauvignon and a rosé champagne from Roederer.
This gala dinner will be served under a large marquee in the White House gardens. The tables will be decorated with chandeliers and flowers in the colors of France and the United States.
To accompany this dinner, the White House invited Jon Batiste, a jazz musician from Louisiana.
