200 elected officials demand a referendum on the attachment of Loire-Atlantique to Brittany

This is a debate that has existed for decades and which is taking a new turn, at the time of the presidential campaign. More than 200 elected officials from all political stripes and a thousand associations have asked the presidential candidates to commit to organizing a referendum on the attachment of Loire-Atlantique to Brittany. “We ask you to commit to initiating, as President of the Republic, the legislative process which will allow the voters of Loire-Atlantique to vote in 2024 on their wish, or not, to join the Brittany Region”, write the signatories. , among which there are several cultural federations as well as the Product in Brittany network, which brings together 475 companies.

“We are not asking for the moon, we simply want the organization of a vote! “, they add, recalling that a petition to this effect had collected 105,000 signatures from voters in Loire-Atlantique in 2018 (more than 10% of those registered). Many communities have also come out in favor of this consultation: Loire-Atlantique departmental council, Brittany regional council, cities of Nantes, Rennes, Brest, Vannes, etc.

“The debate on the reunification of Brittany has been going on for 50 years. It is time today to settle this question in a democratic way”, underlined with AFP Christophe Prugne, president of the association “A la Bretonne”, at the origin of the initiative. He promises “a series of actions challenging the candidates to obtain firm commitments on the organization of a vote”. A Breton flag of 1,400 m² must in particular be deployed on Sunday morning opposite the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, in Nantes.

Among the signatories of the open letter are the LR deputy Marc Le Fur, the PS mayor of Paimpol Fanny Chappé, the EELV regional councilor Claire Desmares, the LREM deputy Yannick Kerlogot or the LR president of the Morbihan departmental council David Lappartient.
