The case is from the USA
Police in the US state of Virginia said the remains of Logan Bowman, who had been missing for 20 years, were found in a wooded area near Galax. The boy was just 5 years old when he disappeared without a trace in January 2003 in Grayson County.

Logan’s remains were discovered in September 2022. Their identification was made possible thanks to a collaboration between local police and a private Texas company specializing in genealogy and genome sequencing. Using an advanced DNA sequencing technique, the company found a match between the genetic code of the remains found and that of family members.

“We used forensic genomic sequencing on the remains of the boy that were found, even though they were found decades later. It was difficult to make a murder charge if there was no body because there is always doubt,” said Dr. Kristen Mittelman. She added that she expected this would lead to further clarification of evidence in court.
The boy’s father, Wayne Bowman, said he was satisfied that his son would finally get a dignified burial. With the remains found, he does not lose hope that justice will also prevail.

The case surrounding the boy’s disappearance and death has been reopened. Cynthia Davis, the boy’s biological mother, and her then-boyfriend, Dennis Schermerhorn, were charged in 2003 in connection with Logan’s disappearance. She pleaded guilty to two counts of “child neglect” and one count of murder.
Court documents obtained by the media show the mother received suspended sentences totaling “10 years in prison for child abuse.” Including a “30-year sentence for murder”, of which 15 years were suspended.
