On Friday, police announced the arrest of a 20-something couple. The couple was detained on charges of killing two 49-day-old twins at a motel in the city of Incheon.
The babies were found dead on a motel bed in the Michuhol area, 27 kilometers west of Seoul, lying face down. They were found by emergency medical personnel who arrived at the scene at 11:22 a.m. on Thursday. The babies’ faces and stomachs showed cadaver marks, which appear after death as blood rushes to the lower part of the body, officials said.
During the police investigation, the mother admitted that she placed the twins face down on the mattress at about 3 a.m. “because they were crying too much.”

The couple arrived in Incheon from the city of Daejeon on Wednesday and checked into the motel at 12 a.m. on Thursday, officials said.
It is known that the mother is unemployed, and the stepfather works as a courier.
The couple could be charged with child abuse resulting in death if the death is determined to be unintentional. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five years or more, up to life imprisonment.
Police plan to ask the National Forensic Science Service to conduct an autopsy, as well as a digital examination of the couple’s phones.
