20% reduction for subscribers and priority on school services

In the reflections of the organizing authority of the northern Moselle bus network, the lines keep moving. Quite simply because the transport offer does not satisfy users, even since the start of the public service delegation by Keolis. Their daily lives are poisoned by the number of uninsured services.

The chronic absenteeism of drivers – between 55 and 60, figure the elected officials of Smitu – is still singled out. Whether you go to school or to your city doctor, the same observation: at certain crossing points, no buses or vehicles already full, which do not stop.

Faced with this “unbearable” reality, the boss that is the Smitu works with Keolis, “without interference” but “with firmness”, insists Bernard Veinnant, vice-president in charge of the network.

Driver recruitment

The latest decision to try to solve the problems? “An order made to the delegatee intended to prioritize the services”, announces Bernard Veinnant. Or a new transport plan favoring stops close to schools, to the detriment of so-called structuring lines, which are well stocked with stops. As of January 3, 2022, and for a period of four months, this test plan “will give more visibility to all”, hopes the vice-president.

Bernard Veinnant also relies heavily on Keolis’ initiatives in terms of recruiting drivers. “Training sessions are underway and more are to come. The first candidates will be operational next February, others in May. “The idea of hiring is accelerating, in particular” with the sponsorship operation by employees who find applicants and are rewarded with a bonus if a contract is signed “.

At the same time, “Keolis is working on sick leave, sometimes considered to be of convenience, and on improving the working conditions of drivers. [temps de parcours, points d’arrêt toilettes N.D.L.R.] ».

A goodwill gesture

As announced at the last meeting of elected officials, “a strong commercial gesture for subscribers is in the pipeline”, confirms Bernard Veinnant. All those who had a subscription between the 1is July and December 31, 2020 will be offered a 20% discount on the annual subscription amount. This is the equivalent of around € 300,000 paid for by the Smitu, an amount taken from the penalties invoiced to the service provider, corresponding to these famous uninsured services.

The road is in any case long in order to stabilize an entire system weakened in many respects.
