20% of establishments closed or in the process of being closed for cases of Covid-19 in Côte-d’Or

While all of the region’s 8 departments have 4-digit incidence rates in Dijon and Côte-d’Or, many establishments are closed for many cases of Covid among their staff. Isabelle Grandin, general secretary of the Union des Métiers et des Industries de l’Hôtellerie de Côte-d’Or (UMIH 21) believes that “20% the number of those who are closed or who will have to close for several days because of the upsurge in Covid-19”. And boosted by the Omicron variant, the virus does not make people jealous. He “impacts both the city of Dijon and the municipalities outside such as Beaune, Semur-en-Auxois and others”.

“20% of establishments closed or which will close”

In Dijon, the brasserie that Sébastien manages is located in the station district. It has been closed since the start of the week. Like so many other bosses, he placed a simple sign at the entrance: “Exceptional closure from Monday 10 to Friday 14 January 2022”. A closure due to Covid. But like other impacted colleagues, Sébastien does not want to write it in black and white and if he has accepted to answer questions from France Bleu Bourgogne, he especially does not want the name of his establishment to appear in this article.

“Out of the four employees, we have two positive cases” explains Sébastien.

“Out of the four employees, we have two positive cases: the manager and the room server. Positions that are quite difficult to replace overnight. We therefore preferred to close for a week to avoid creating a cluster among the customers. Our customers are regulars who like to come and play cards. But I’m not worried: we’ll be open next week, I’m sure. ”

With this closure Sébastien estimates that he will lose 6,000 euros in turnover. A hard blow even if he says he did “a beautiful week” the previous week. To date, no concrete aid measure has been announced by the government to help our managers of cafes, bars or restaurants in the event of closure due to sick employees. “This penalizes a lot of establishments” explains the secretary-general of the UMIH of Côte-d’Or.
