Twenty-three civilians were killed in explosions in a market in southern Afghanistan, said Afghan officials, who blamed the Taliban for the attack.

“This morning at 9:30 am (5:00 GMT), the Taliban made two explosions in the Sangin district market of Helmand province. Unfortunately, 23 civilians were killed and 15 injured, “the military command said in a statement, a toll confirmed by the Helmand governorate.

Asked byAFP, a spokesman for the insurgents, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, accused the authorities of being behind the explosions.
