20 minutes – police have to intervene too often

The majority of the population adheres to the Federal Council’s regulations on combating the corona virus. But there are also black sheep. The police have their hands full with them.

This had to intervene too often in the past week, said Stefan Blättler, President of the Cantonal Police Commandants, in an interview with the “SonntagsBlick”. Across Switzerland, the police found that people did not implement social distancing. “They sat together in parks, lingered in large groups on the lake promenades and hardly kept their distance.”

«Life has definitely slowed down»

Ultimately, it is a matter of common sense, said Blättler. In this situation, you are not only responsible for your own actions, but also for the consequences that this has for others. “We need the entire population to curb the spread of the virus.”

However, the top Swiss policeman notes an improvement in the situation. The difference to last Saturday is striking: “Life has definitely slowed down.” It remains to be seen whether the new federal measures have had an effect and whether the police will also be able to reach those who have been almost unteachable.

Distance of two meters

Police officers also have many conversations with parents who let their children play together outside. These are also sent home, which is sometimes misunderstood. Blättler appeals to parents to assume their special responsibility. “We are aware that many freedoms are currently being restricted. But this is the only way we can protect the risk groups. »

The Federal Council calls for people to stay at home whenever possible and to keep a distance of at least two meters. Groups of more than five people have been banned in public since Friday.
