Chris Hemsworth called 20 minutes to answer our questions by videoconference from his residence in Byron Bay, Australia. The 36-year-old actor, unforgettable in his role as Thor, is the star of the new action film Tyler Rake: Extraction available since Saturday April 25, 2020 on Netflix.
How is your confinement going?
I will be very honest with you. This seems to have a lot more positive points than negative for my level because I am lucky to live in a seaside resort with few inhabitants and we are close to certain beaches where it is still possible to go surfing. As normal, I would be going around the world promoting my new film. Having the chance to stay at my place and you are calling on video from my living room is a luxury. I can make the most of my family because we are all together. My brothers and our parents are close. Elsa’s brother (editor’s note: Pataky, the Spanish actress whom he married in 2010) settled here for several years and, luckily, his mother was here before the confinement was announced, so she stayed.
How do you organize your days?
Elsa and I have three children (editor’s note: India, 8 years old and the twins, Sasha and Tristan, 6 years old) and a good part of the day is spent doing homework with them. The hard part is getting them to focus on the lessons. One of us has to stay with them all the time, otherwise it’s fucked up (laughs). I have even more respect for school teachers since we are on the edge.
Do you have something to make sure you are listened to by your children?
Yes and it is tl. Put themselves in the living room in front of a film or cartoon, it is their reward if they have done their homework or tidy up their rooms for example. I love being at home because the more our children grow, the more complicated it becomes to be away. My daughter made me a scene for the first time a few months ago because I had to leave two weeks for a shooting and she started to cry while hanging my legs. It was very hard.
Seeing Tyler Rake: Extraction on Netflix, you can’t help but think Rambo since you play as a mercenary on a dangerous mission …
Rambo is one of the favorite films of my youth so thank you for the compliment. I must admit that the action scenes of this shoot were even more complex than to embody Thor because many stunts were done in a natural environment and not in front of green screens.
Finally, in the blink of an eye, do you think the Avengers could be very useful in dealing with the virus and the current situation?
I don’t think Thor with his hammer could do much, but maybe Bruce Banner (Hulk) would have found a medical solution and Tony Stark (Iron Man) would have already produced machines.
