Aldi Suisse and Lidl Switzerland are now grateful for the extraordinary commitment of their employees at the front: they receive shopping vouchers, as the discounters announced on Monday.
Coop also gives its employees on the Corona front a gift, as the retailer says on request in 20 minutes. According to a spokeswoman, around 40,000 Coop employees will receive gift cards worth CHF 250 to 500 depending on their level of employment. The voucher cards are available every year, however, the payment was brought forward to April. Despite the current situation, gift cards total 18 million Swiss francs, said a spokeswoman.
Migros does not yet offer a premium
At Coop, the maximum amount for a voucher is slightly higher than at discounters. Aldi Suisse gives vouchers worth up to CHF 400 to over 2,500 employees in sales and logistics. Lidl Switzerland presents the over 3500 employees in the warehouses and branches with a first voucher, with a second one to follow in April. The total amount is then CHF 350 per employee.
Only Migros has not yet awarded a premium. However, she is working on a solution to “provide additional support to employees in these turbulent days and to be able to appreciate their great performance,” said a spokesman on request.
“The remuneration should be significantly higher”
The Unia union welcomes the fact that the work of the sellers is recognized by the retailers, as Unia employee Anne Rubin said in 20 minutes. “Unia has been calling for an urgently needed upgrade of this low wage industry for years. We hope that this is a first step and will continue after the crisis, ”says Rubin. Migros should also give a significant bonus to its employees.
Rubin also mentions two points of criticism: “The remuneration should be significantly higher and be around one month’s wages. In addition, a premium would be better than a voucher because it can be freely spent. But a voucher is better than nothing. »
Update 1.4., 8.30 a.m .: We have specified that Coop has also given gifts to its employees in previous years. The payment is preferred because of the corona crisis.
