After the fatal knife attack on Saturday in the center of the city of Romans-sur-Isère in southeastern France, the anti-terrorist prosecutor has taken over the investigation. As the authority announced, it is now under investigation for murder and attempted murder in connection with a criminal, terrorist organization. Two people were killed and five others injured, two seriously, in the attack on Saturday.

The alleged perpetrator is said to be a Sudanese man who was born in 1987, according to the anti-terrorist prosecutor. During the house search, documents with religious content were found, in which the man complained, among other things, that he lived in a land of unbelievers. The man was previously unknown to the police.

How France Bleu reports that the arrested person is a refugee from Sudan. He is said to have called “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, the station reports, citing witnesses.
On Saturday afternoon, President Emmanuel Macron also commented on the bloody deed in Romans-sur-Isère. His thoughts are with the victims of the attack and their families, said on Twitter. He condemned the “hideous act” that the country, which had been hard to test in the past few weeks, is now mourning.
