20 minutes – amateur photographer triggers completely unnecessary search action

On Sunday afternoon, a couple and their son drove from Brülisau towards Steinegg. Halfway through the route, the 62-year-old husband wanted to take photos of the Alpstein massif. So he left the car and walked down the slope, informs the Cantonal Police Appenzell Innerrhoden. He left his cell phone in the car.

Because the man did not show up at the agreed meeting point after some time, the police were alerted. The first search measures were immediately initiated and Alpine Rescue Switzerland was called. Over two dozen mountain specialists from the Appenzell rescue center and a search dog team combed the Chlustobel.

Man showed up at home

The very impassable Tobel was also searched intensively from the Rega helicopter. Shortly after 6 p.m., the missing man appeared safely at his place of residence in the canton of St. Gallen. He had gone home on public transport without notifying his wife and son. The family has to pay the high cost of the search itself. According to Roland Koster, spokesman for the cantonal police in Appenzell Innerrhoden, this should amount to a few thousand francs.
