This event was held on Saturday (21/9/2024) at the FIKK Unesa Auditorium, as part of the commemoration of the 41st National Sports Day. At this event participants were educated about the importance of healthy food and living patterns.

Chief executive Indra Himawan Susanto confirmed that diabetes is now not only attacking the elderly, but also teenagers and children. “One of the goals of this event is to prevent the increasing rates of diabetes,” he said.

This event featured speakers such as Dr. Bella Saphira Evani from Health Educator Sobat Diabet East Java and Priscilla Zefanya Pandjaitan, SGz from PT Lautan Natural Krimerindo.

Bella explained that diabetes can cause a number of serious diseases, such as blindness and heart disease. WHO data says that 1 in 10 people suffer from diabetes, and this number is expected to increase by 2040.

About 20 million Indians suffer from diabetes, but 86 percent are unaware of this condition. “Classic symptoms include frequent urination, thirst and hunger, but weight loss for no apparent reason is also common,” he explains.

Diabetes prevention includes regular checkups, healthy eating patterns, and physical activity. Bella recommends maintaining blood sugar with a good diet and exercising at least 150 minutes a week.

At the same time, Priscilla said that a balanced diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and protein is very important for health.

Priority should be given to consuming vegetables and fruits, with half of the plate filled with both. “A healthy diet is the foundation of body health and fitness,” concluded Priscilla. [ipl/kun]
