Bergamo. Precisely on the day in which the Municipality of Bergamo announced that the Italcementi sports center will be renovated with a 20 million euro project, the basketball court of the structure is showing the signs of time. On Monday evening, during the warm-up of the match valid for the Under 19 basketball championship between the local team BluOrobica and Brescia, a part of the parquet gave way, forcing the referee to postpone the derby due to the unusability of the pitch.
The damaged area is located in one of the two areas, right where the boys were training under the basket before the start of the match. Luckily no one was hurt.
The time needed for the fixing should be quite short. A carpenter should be there in the next few hours to reassemble the section of parquet that collapsed.
“Fortunately there were no injuries – the words of the BluOrobica team manager Luca Belotti – . In the next few days we will establish the date for the recovery of the match, which as per the rules we did not lose by default.
We hope the situation can be resolved soon, also because we have to train on that pitch tomorrow evening and on Saturday we have the first team’s match against Montebelluna.”
