20 Gram Café: The Rise of the $2.55 Burgers with a Touch of Candied Garlic

20 Gram Café, a Brooklyn grocery store and cafe with stands for about 20 people, rose to fame for its burgers that have a touch of candied garlic, the quality of the product and a price of $2.55.

The location, also known as 20 Grams of Greenpoint, from Jubilee Marketplace, opens its doors every day from noon to 9 pm and can sell 1,300 burgers per day on weekends.

Executive chef and culinary director Samantha La Manna, 30, says customers are requesting burgers en masse, up to a dozen at a time, which costs $30. “It’s crazy positive,” The New York Post quotes.

Customers stand in long lines to taste, burgers cost between $2.15 and cheeseburgers cost $2.55.

This establishment began to gain notoriety when the owner of the establishment, Young Kim, 33, approached La Manna, with extensive experience at Le Bernardin and Eleven Madison Park, with several Garden State White Manna of Hackensack sandwiches. A place that has served as inspiration for several proposals in New York City.

Executive Chef La Manna reveals that the burger’s special ingredient is the candied garlic embedded in the burger. “It enhances the flavor of any food,” she said.

The competitive prices are because they use what is sold in Jubilee’s grocery area, one floor below the cafe.

The burgers also have American cheese and a pinch of salt. A not-quite-spicy sauce made with yellow mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and a touch of hot sauce.

While the top bun of the burger is steamed and the bottom bun is toasted to obtain a mix of textures.

For her part, Kim, 33, referred to the low prices of her burgers. “Customers have repeatedly told me that it is very expensive to get a quick bite anywhere,” she said.
