It is a news item that we would like to read less often. However, it is indeed a terrible tragedy which occurred in Rennes, this Saturday, November 13, 2021. A little before 3 pm, a child of less than two years died after falling more than 48 meters.
A horrible drama
It is in a tower of the Bréquigny district in Rennes, in the west of France, that the tragedy took place, on the 16th floor of the building. The baby was in her room, while her mother and twin sister were also in the apartment. Nothing yet explains how the child was able to tip out of the window and fall from 48 meters.
His lifeless body was found by a horrified resident of the building at the foot of the tower. “He had just fallen from the 16th floor. I knew his family by sight. It’s horrible.”, he explains distraught to West France. He immediately alerted the firefighters, the Samu and the gendarmes who tried to resuscitate the baby, in vain. The latter quickly set up a security perimeter and placed the body under a white tent to prevent the curious from approaching the scene of the tragedy.
The privileged accidental trail
Although the baby’s family collapsed after this tragedy and was taken care of by the emergency services, an investigation by the departmental security of the Rennes police station was opened. Yes the accidental track remains largely privileged, she must try to determine the circumstances in which the fall took place.
This is the second time in a few months that such an event has occurred. In September 2021, a two-year-old also had a fatal fall from the 6th floor of a building de Fresnes, in the Val-de-Marne.
