A 2-year-old boy died of starvation after spending two weeks next to his father’s body in Skegness, Lincolnshire, UK.
Identified as Bronson Battersby, the little boy was in the care of his 60-year-old father, Kenneth Battersby. According to authorities, the man suffered a sudden cardiac arrest a few days after Christmas. Left alone, the baby was deprived of access to food and also lost his life.
An acquaintance of the family informed local media that the boy remained next to his father’s body. As Kenneth was considered a vulnerable person, Lincolnshire Children’s Services staff visited him weekly.
The entity’s executive director, Heather Sandy, indicated that a social worker had contact with the child’s father on December 27 and scheduled a home visit for January 2. However, when she showed up again two days later, she received no response.
Not being able to enter legally, he asked his landlady for help. It was not until January 9 that the bodies of the father and son were discovered. The landlady, Maria Clifton-Plaice, shared that the day of the discovery was one of the most difficult of her life. Although she did not know little Bronson, she knew that he had lived with his father for a short time.
The child’s mother, who died of starvation along with his father, was in charge of identifying the bodies and expressed that her son was “fragile.”
