2 Suspects in Diaspora Settlement Case Alleged Hitting

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The police charged two suspects in the emergency discharge case diaspora debate at the Grand Kemang Hotel, South Jakarta, with Article 170 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding beatings. Earlier, the police arrested five people in this case.

Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Head, High Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, said that the implementation of Article 170 of the Criminal Code was according to the police report they received. However, according to him, it is possible that his party will apply multi-layered charges in other articles such as Article 406 of the Criminal Code regarding damage to property and alleged violations of human rights regarding freedom of expression.

“Article 170 is applied because it is according to the LP (police report). Later, the investigation will still develop,” said Ade, Sunday, September 29 2024.

This case was reported by a person with the initials M. In his report, M said that he suffered violence. He admitted that he had bruises on his chest.

Responding to the report, Polda Metro Jaya arrested five people. The two suspects were later GW (22 years) and FEK (38) years. At the same time, Ade said that the other three were still studying their careers.

The diaspora debate was hosted by the Homeland Forum (FTA) at the Hotel Grand KemangSouth Jakarta, last Saturday. Chaos ensued after several people burst into the discussion room and caused trouble.

In the video that was circulating, a group of people immediately climbed onto the stage, tearing down flags, projector screens and poles. There were also those who broke poles and hit tables. They also scared debate participants about spreading the word.

Several national figures are expected to attend the debate. Among them are: Former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abaraham Samad, Former Chairman of Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin, Constitutional Law Expert Refly Harun, Director of Indonesian Resources Studies Marwan Batubara and former Secretary of the Ministry of BUMN Didu said.

Abraham Samad those present at the diaspora debate questioned the security provided by hotel security officers and the police. He regretted that security was not tight, even though the debate was taking place in the hotel. “It’s a hotel, it’s impossible to get in if they have good security procedures,” he said, Sunday, September 29 2024.
