Don’t have much time to exercise during the week? Or can’t find the motivation? A new study shows that 15 minutes of vigorous exercise a week or just two minutes of vigorous exercise a day is enough.
Good news if you don’t have time to exercise.
Reduced risk of premature death
The new study was published in European Heart Journal. The study shows that fifteen minutes a week or two minutes of vigorous exercise a day reduces the risk of premature death by 18%.
Research
For the study, researchers strapped activity monitors to the wrists of 71,893 adults with an average age of 62.5 for nearly seven years. Five years later, the researchers kept track of who had died in the meantime. People who didn’t exercise had a 4 percent risk of dying during that time. People who exercised for ten minutes a week cut that risk in half. In total, fifteen minutes of vigorous exercise per week has been shown to reduce the risk of death by 18%.
Moving more is better
Obviously, the more exercise you get, the better. According to the World Health Organization, a “healthy person” gets 150 to 300 minutes of moderate exercise a week. Or you can opt for 75-150 minutes of vigorous exercise per week. Out Research shows that these guidelines reduce the risk of premature death by 21%. Do you exercise more than the number of minutes indicated above? So this has even greater benefits for your life.
Feeling of happiness
A long life isn’t the only reason to be active on a daily basis. Another study shows that ten minutes of exercise a week can increase happiness. Reasons enough to make a detour!
