Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
As much as 2 million laborer will take action strike on 6-8 December 2021. The strike was carried out as a form of protest against the government’s decision to increase the Wages Provincial Minimum (UMP) of 1.09 percent in 2022.
President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal said strikes were carried out nationally in more than 100 thousand companies involving 60 trade union federations.
“The workers who will strike come from more than 100 thousand companies that will join in 30 provinces and more than 150 regencies/cities, including friends from online motorcycle taxis will join,” Said said at a press conference, Monday (22/11).
KSPI also cooperates with a number of other labor confederations that will take part in this action, such as the All-Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI), the Indonesian Workers’ Political Committee (KPBI), the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress (KASBI), and the National Welfare Movement (Gekanas).
The legal basis to be used in this action is Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning Freedom to Express Opinions in Public. All workers are also advised to stop producing.
The labor confederation will also stage demonstrations in a number of government centers, both at the central and regional levels. Workers will hold demonstrations at the State Palace, Jakarta City Hall, and the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker).
“This is a strong backlash, don’t argue that the 1.09 percent minimum wage increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic has nothing to do with it,” he stressed.
This is because the increase in wages is regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 36 of 2021, which means that at any time the minimum wage for workers in the future will increase with a low percentage.
Prior to that, his party will mobilize the masses to carry out the Joint National Demonstration Action which will be held on November 29 and 30, 2021. The State Palace, City Hall, and Ministry of Manpower will be filled with crowds coming from Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.
“Of course there will be technical arrangements for the demonstration. 10,000 at City Hall, 10,000 at the Palace, and 10,000 at the Ministry of Manpower. This is not a joke, this is real,” he said.
He also said that this demonstration would take into account the rules in PPKM Level 1 and the direction of the security forces so as not to disturb public order.
