Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Various controversies colored the duel Malaysia vs Thailand in the first leg of the 2022 AFF Cup semi-finals at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (7/1).
In that fierce match, Malaysia narrowly won 1-0 over Thailand thanks to M Faisal Halim’s goal in 11th minute after taking advantage of Ruventhiran Al Vengadesan’s assist.
In that match, Thailand absolutely controlled the game. Alexandre Polking’s team has also excelled in creating opportunities.
However, the Malaya Tigers were better able to make use of the minimal goal scoring opportunities. In addition to Faisal Halim’s goal, Kim Pan Gon’s team also scored another goal in the second half.
To be precise, in the 55th minute, Dominic Tan’s header slipped into Kittipong Phoothawchuek’s goal thanks to Lee Tuck’s free-kick from the left. The momentum for goal was created as goalkeeper Kittipong failed to clear Tuck’s free kick.
However, South Korea’s referee, Kim Dae Yong disallowed Tan’s goal due to an elbow violation against Pansa Hemviboon.
In the replay, no elbow violations were seen by the Malaysian players during the duel in the air. It’s just that Pansa’s face hit the back of Daaren Lok’s head.
Aside from Dominic Tan’s canceled incident, referee Kim Dae Yong also didn’t award Thailand a penalty when Shamie Iszuan clearly infringed on Bordin Phala.
The incident occurred in the 84th minute. Bordin Phala dribbled the ball into the penalty area. However, Shamie’s tackle missed the ball, tripping Bordin’s leg instead.
The Thai players protested, but Kim Dae Yong did not award the War Elephant a penalty.
In the second leg of the semi-finals of the 2022 AFF Cup, Thailand will host Malaysia by hosting them at Thammasat Stadium, on Tuesday (10/1).
