2 Goals + 1 Red Card

Jakarta

Antoine Griezmann had twice scored two goals for Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool. But he also had to leave the field first because he got red.

When hosting Liverpool on the third matchday of the Champions League, Wednesday (20/10) early morning Western Indonesian Time, Atletico had to miss first from their guests.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita in the opening 13 minutes of the match gave Liverpool a promising start to the away game.

It took seven minutes for Atletico to give their first response after Liverpool’s second goal. Griezmann scored Liverpool’s goal in the 20th minute, following a corner. VAR checked the goal for alleged offside, but there was no correction.

About 14 minutes later, Griezmann in action again. After escaping Virgil van Dijk’s control, Griezmann converted Joao Felix’s pass into a goal. The score is 2-2.

When the match was fierce, Atletico actually had to lose a person who in that match was the best player. Antoine Griezmann was sent off straight away in the 52nd minute.

The red card was given by referee Daniel Siebert from Germany for considering Griezmann endangered opposing players by lifting his feet too high in the fight for the ball with Roberto Firmino. Griezmann’s foot hit Firmino’s face.

With 10 players remaining on the field, Atletico Madrid finally had to give up a 2-3 defeat to Liverpool who added a goal through Salah’s penalty in the 78th minute.

Worth it Antoine Griezmann straight red card? Pavel Fernandez, referee analyst from Radio Marca, gives his opinion.

“Griezmann was rightly sent off, he hit Firmino in the face with the pocket of his shoe. It was a rash act and the referee did the right thing by giving him a red card.”
