Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Ten people were injured by two random planes (drone) loaded with explosives King Abdullah Airport south of Jizan City, Saudi Arabia, on Friday (8/10) evening and Saturday (9/10) morning.
The Saudi-led military coalition said six Saudis, three Bangladeshis and one Sudanese were injured in the first drone strike. Several windows of the airport’s facade were also shattered in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Saudi coalition said it had successfully intercepted a second drone that was launched in the early hours of Saturday. The drone is said to be loaded with explosives.
The Saudi coalition did not provide other details regarding the damage or potential casualties from the second drone strike.
Quoted ReutersSaudi state television reported that air traffic at King Abdullah Airport remained normal despite being delayed due to the attack.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the drone attack.
However, the Saudis often accuse the Houthi rebel group in Yemen of being behind the drone and missile attacks aimed at its territory.
This is because Saudi Arabia has intervened in the military since 2015 to help the Yemeni government suppress the Houthi rebels.
Since then, the Houthis have been persistent in launching missiles and drones at the Saudis. The Houthi missiles even targeted the cities of Mecca and Medina several times. However, so far the Saudi coalition has managed to intercept most of the Houthi attacks.
Many people consider the civil conflict in Yemen that has occurred since 2014 as a proxy war between Saudi, which supports Yemen, and Iran, which supports the Houthis.
Saudi Arabia and Iran are sworn enemies fighting for influence in the Middle East.
The United Nations (UN) considers the civil war in Yemen to be the worst humanitarian crisis in history.
