2 doses of Sinovac Vaccine Unable to Fight Omicron Variant – Lentera Today

JAKARTA (Lenteratoday) – Residents who have received two doses of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine do not have sufficient antibodies to fight or neutralize the Omicron variant.

This is the result of research at the University of Hong Kong quoted by doctor Adam Prabata @adamprabata, Thursday (16/12/2021).

From the results of the study, 25 people who had received two doses of Sinovac vaccine did not have adequate antibodies in their blood to fight the Omicron variant of the Corona Virus.

Meanwhile, giving a booster or third injection of the Sinovac vaccine, as many as 94 percent (45 of 48 people) who received the third injection had detectable antibodies against Omicron.

However, according to Adam, citing a statement from Sinovac, there is no detailed data on antibody levels and how long it has been since the booster vaccination was carried out.

It was previously reported that the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM RI) is in the process of giving permission for three vaccines for a booster or third injection. The three vaccines can be used for the Covid-19 vaccination booster program in January 2022, namely: Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac.

“Homologously, three types of Covid-19 vaccines have also been processed for boosters, so that means using data from clinical trials conducted abroad,” said Head of BPOM Penny K Lukito in a working meeting with DPR Commission IX, Tuesday (14/12/2021). ).

“First, there is the Pfizer vaccine, which is in the process of obtaining homologous EUA for those aged 18 years and over. Then, the AstraZeneca vaccine is also for boosters 18 years and over, the third is the Sinovac CoronaVac vaccine for homologous boosters for ages 18 and over,” he continued. “Hopefully we can catch up (EUA) in December, hopefully we can issue an emergency use permit before the January 2022 booster vaccination timeline,” continued Penny.

Indonesia is also conducting clinical trials of booster vaccinations, one of which is carried out by the Ministry of Health’s Balitbangkes starting November 17, 2021.

It is known that the government will hold a third injection or bosser vaccination program in early 2022. There are free and paid vaccinations
