2 Divia controllers violently attacked in the tram

This Saturday, April 30, around 7 a.m., on line T2 of the Dijon tramway, two Divia Mobilités controllers were violently attacked by two individuals. The two victims were hospitalized at the Dijon University Hospital.

It was around 7 a.m., near the “Godrans” stop on line T2 of the Dijon tramway that two individuals attacked two Divia controllers.

These controllers (a man and a woman) worked as part of the checks on transport tickets and compliance with the wearing of masks.

The management of Divia evokes a “rather violent” aggression by these two individuals. The injured controllers were evacuated to the Dijon University Hospital.

This act of violence takes place in a context of “upsurge in attacks” towards drivers and controllers, “but also against the material (stones, damage…) recently” specifies the communication from Divia Mobilités.

According to Mounir Smaili, CGT union representative at Divia Kéolis, “the current context is in fact a real security problem, on different sectors of the network.”

The trade unionist evokes by opposition the facts of 2019, which were located mainly in Chenôve (stones at the mall, among others). But the recent context is no longer tolerable, according to him: “Currently, we are victims of an upsurge in incivility, physical or verbal aggression.”

The trade unionist believes that the problem is to be managed at a higher level than that of the public transport operator in the city of Dijon: “We have asked Kéolis management to quickly organize a meeting with the public authorities. Although our management is attentive and the attacks are dealt with quickly, the employees are annoyed.”

Mounir Smaili also mentions the safety of travelers, and not just that of employees: “We have a responsibility to travelers too. When a line is diverted, there is an alternative solution that is offered.”

In a press release, the mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen and president of Dijon Métropole condemns “with the greatest firmness the cowardly aggression by a group of several individuals of which two Divia controllers were victims while they were only doing their job.

The mayor recalls the context of the upsurge in attacks and “wishes that the perpetrators, as soon as they are identified, will be severely punished in proportion to these facts which affect the physical integrity of people whose only wrong is to enforce the regulations. I express all my sympathy to the towards the victims who had to be admitted to the emergency room, and towards the staff and managers of Divia.”
