Also thanks to a strong performance by Lewis Holtby, Holstein Kiel deservedly beat 1. FC Nürnberg in the second Bundesliga in the last home game of the season.
The hosts won 3-0 on Matchday 33. Former Schalke player Holtby set up Steven Skrzybski’s lead (14th minute), initiated Julian Korb’s goal (41st) and scored the final point himself (63rd).
The Kiel team remained undefeated for the fifth time in a row. The FCN, on the other hand, remained without a win for the fourth time in a row. For the Nurembergers, the last highly theoretical chance for promotion has been wasted.
Guests with more possession, hosts efficient
Both teams played happily from the start. The guests initially had more possession of the ball, but the home side acted extremely effectively. Skrzybski took the first opportunity to take the lead, which Korb extended just before the break after Fabian Reese’s top assist.
After the change, the “Club” tried to gain more power with two fresh players. But again it was the people of Kiel who struck. As a result, the Nuremberg resistance was finally broken.
