“Police confronted a man with a knife in the Leicester Square area,” London Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Leicester Square is located in the square in the heart of London, less than two kilometers from Westminster Hall, the temporary burial site of the body of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Two police officers have sustained stab wounds and are currently being treated in the hospital. We are awaiting further developments on their condition,” the London Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Police added that the suspect would remain in the hospital for a while.
