2 Bobotoh Dies at GBLA, Police Call it Due to Crowding, Persib Management Says Beyond Prediction

BANDUNG, KOMPAS com – Two Persib Bandung fans, known as Bobotoh, died at the Sartika Asih Hospital in Bandung, West Java, after previously being pushed into the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium, during the Persib Bandung vs Persebaya Surabaya match, Friday (17 /6/2022)

Bandung Police Chief Kombes Aswin Sipayung said security activities during the match were in accordance with the security plan.

“In accordance with the security plan, we guard the 26 doors. Above is for access to the audience area, then below there are also. There are four entrances for access to tear tickets, we also place full personnel,” said Aswin when visiting the funeral home, in Cibaduyut Street, Bandung City, Saturday (18/6/2022).

He said, at the time of the match, people who want to watch the match must show a ticket or ticket in accordance with the rules of the organizing committee.

For those who do not have tickets, are not allowed to enter the stadium.

Meanwhile, the deaths of the two Bobotohs were caused by the crowd who wanted to enter in a hurry so that they were jostling.

“Well, many who want to enter can’t wait, want to rush in, then there are victims outside. In front of the ticket door, the ticket is torn, not inside the building (stadium),” he said.

“So, the assumption is that they can’t wait to enter, in a hurry. Even though they have been advised to line up and the queue is already there. Then they are asked to show a ticket, either from a mobile phone or a ticket or hard copy,” he added.

According to Aswin, many of these spectators rushed to enter the stadium without regard to safety.

Explanation of Persib Bandung management

Persib Bandung management spoke about the incident when two Bobotoh died during the Persib vs Persebaya match at GBLA.

Commissioner of PT Persib Bandung Dignity (PBB), Umuh Muchtar deeply regrets the incident.
