Berlin – The Eisbären Berlin have successfully returned from the international break in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Sunday afternoon, the German champions won against the Löwen Frankfurt 5:2 (3:1, 0:1, 2:0) and thus consolidated their lead in the table. Ty Ronning, Leonhard Pföderl, Marcel Noebels, Lean Bergmann and Frederik Tiffels ensured the well-deserved victory with their goals.
In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof, the home team dominated from the start. Ronning scored after just 81 seconds, Pföderl extended the lead in the 14th minute. The Frankfurters were able to shorten the score in their first power play (15th), but Noebels restored the old gap when the Berliners played in the majority (18th).
In the final third, the Berliners secured victory
After the first break, the Hessians got off to a better start. Dominik Bokk scored the goal after 29 seconds. The hosts then missed a few clear chances before losing their line at times. In the final section, the Berliners improved again. Bergmann (46th) and Tiffels (52nd) secured the victory with their goals.
The Eisbären will be in the Champions Hockey League (CHL) as early as Tuesday evening. Then they welcome the Sheffield Steelers for the second leg of the round of 16 at the Wellblechpalast.
