The turnover of the businesses and activities of the country’s economy last year closed with a negative sign. It decreased by 2.9% and amounted to 447.4 billion euros, compared to 460.9 billion euros in 2022.
Businesses in the Electricity Supply, Natural Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning sector (45.2%) and the Manufacturing sector (8.5%) showed a decrease in turnover. Whereas, the biggest increase was shown by the companies in the Education sector (23.5%) and the Construction sector (16.7%).
Also according to ELSTAT, for all businesses and economic activities, the turnover in the fourth quarter of 2023 amounted to 119,254,446 thousand euros, marking a decrease of 5.9% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, which had risen to 120,083,372 thousand euros. The biggest decrease in turnover was shown by the companies in the Electricity, Natural Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning sector (55.4%), while the biggest increase was shown by the companies in the Education sector (13.6%).
At the same time, for all businesses with an obligation to keep duplicate books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in December 2023 amounted to 34,688,378 thousand euros, marking a decrease of 13.4% compared to December 2022 , which had risen to 40,071,423 thousand euros. The biggest decrease was shown by the companies in the Electricity, Natural Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning sector (68.1%), while the biggest increase was shown by the companies in the Financial and Insurance Activities sector (32%).
