Despite the withdrawal of Algeria, for administrative reasons, and the absence of Rwanda and Gabon, the Tour du Faso 2023 took shape this Friday, October 27, 2023 with 71 riders at the start. It was from the Place de la Nation that the caravan took the road to Po for a total distance of 144km. At the finish it was Paul Daumont from the Burkina flag team who won in the sprint ahead of the Belgian Wouters Rutger and the Moroccan Sabbahi El Houcaine.
With an average speed of 39.0527 km/h, the peloton of this 34th edition of the Tour du Faso arrived in Po, after covering a distance of 144 km. Before the first hot spot at Kombissiri, the young cycling Stallions are starting to make their mark.
This first bonus point is won by Soudji Romuald from Benin, ahead of Wouters Rutger and Burkinabè Boureima Nana. In Toecé, Paul Daumont puts his feet on the accelerator pedal and wins this bonus point ahead of Abdou Traoré from Ivory Coast and Mahamadi Ilboudo from Burkina. The last hot point in Nobéré is won by Daouda Soulama, ahead of the Belgian Wouters Rutger and the Beninese Mensah Romameti-EZER.
It was from this moment that Salif Yerbanga decided to go alone. He respectively puts a gap of 40 then 50 seconds with the peloton. He will even cross the Nazinon bridge alone. On the lookout in the last few hundred meters of this stage, the peloton will cancel the breakaway. And it’s the sprinters who get into position. The sprint launched around 300 meters from the finish was profitable for Burkinabè Paul Daumont who settled the scores with his opponents.
Thus the Burkinabè is the first stage winner of this 34th edition of the Tour du Faso but also the first yellow jersey. This Saturday, October 28, 2023, for the second Nioryida-Ziniaré stage, 107.2 km long, Paul Daumont will set off wearing the yellow leader’s tunic of this Tour du Faso 2023.
