1st national league men – tight encounter despite failures

Without Adrian Vorhemus, who was ill, and Nick Ihlenfeld, who was unable to play, the starting position for the KTV men in the state league duel with UTC Gedersdorf was not exactly rosy. Both would have been good for points in this game. So Rainer Fröschl and Valentin Kaftan had to step into the breach.

Elias Hoxha (6:1 and 6:2 against Phillip Roithner) and Sebastian Wojta (6:2 and 6:4 against Matthias Haubner) scored two points in the individual matches with sovereign performances. Patrick Gamauf and Rainer Fröschl, on the other hand, had to admit defeat relatively clearly.

It got exciting in the duels of Valentin Kaftan with Josef Auer and Mario Tupy with Michal Curley. Kaftan clearly had to give up the first set, but then had set balls to compensate in the second. However, his opponent remained ice cold and then decided the game in two sets for himself.

Great tennis cinema was then offered in the one-on-one duel between Tupy and Curlej. The two fought for three hours. Tupy grabbed the first set 6:4, had to give up the second set 6:3 and in the deciding set Curlej prevailed by a razor-thin 7:6. “With a win it would have been 3:3, but then it was 2:4 and we had to take risks in doubles,” said team captain Mario Tupy after the game. The courageous formation in the doubles encounters was not rewarded. All three went to the hosts, who thus prevailed 7:2.

Next Saturday we continue away against Hofstetten-Grünau. A possibly decisive game in the fight for relegation. But the KTV men should be able to compete with the top cast again, as Tupy reveals.

After that there is a week-long break before the KTV men are allowed to serve at home for the first time this season. The home game against Tulln is on June 3rd, which is also an important round for staying up in the league.
