WOODEN Good news for New Year’s diving enthusiasts from Houten and the surrounding area. The dive will still take place on New Year’s morning. Not a massive encounter on the beach of the Rietplas, but as a result of the announced measures such as a responsible and small-scale home dive into your own safe bubble. Mayor Gilbert Isabella will count down a little before 12 noon and give the go-ahead.
Anyone who wants to experience this spectacle can follow it live via the YouTube / Zoom link that is on the site of broadcaster Houten and the New Year’s Dive Houten.
EVERYTHING FROM THE CABINET A New Year’s Day in Houten without a New Year’s Dive is actually something unthinkable, according to organizers Eric de Groot, Erik Akkerman and Evert de Graaf and the supporting organizations. Everything was pulled out of the closet to mainly look for what is still possible within the announced corona measures. The solution was found; the home dive virtually. Twenty-five participants will gather virtually on the screen from their own garden, balcony or bathroom with swimwear on from 11.45 am. At the stroke of noon they will pour a special UNOX soup tin, this time filled with ice-cold seawater, over themselves or have it poured over them. The ultimate moment to start the new year fresh.
SPEECH The chairman of the foundation, Eric de Groot, will present this special Corona 19e edition open at 11.45 am and measure the water temperature of a filled can of seawater. Traditionally, the warm-up will be provided by Damian Murphy. The mayor will give a short speech and will conclude with the countdown and give the go-ahead.
REAL SEAWATER The participants who will dive home are exclusively persons who also ran in the Rietplas van Houten on January 1, 2020. They will all be personally contacted for this. The starting ticket will be awarded in the order of registration. They will then receive a certificate of participation, the UNOX soup can with real sea water, a diving cap and a unique commemorative flag that will become an absolute collector’s item.
Each year the foundation contributes a sum of money a good cause and that is KIKA this year. An organization that conducts research into combating childhood cancer. Proof of the total proceeds of participation and the donations that can be made on the website will fully benefit KIKA. There is also a UNOX Home Dive Tin 2021 with orange diving cap available for the sponsors with the highest or near highest amount sponsored.
Omroep Houten facilitates all technology, pre-recordings and the realization of the New Year’s Dive Houten broadcast.
