Die BMX Racing World Championships 1998 took place from July 24th to 26th in Melbourne, Australia. There were competitions for the elite and junior categories in BMX racing (men and women) and cruiser (men only). Parallel to the World Championships there were competitions for the Challenge performance class.
The competitions took place at the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre, too The Glasshouse called, instead. A BMX track was set up in the hall at short notice; They were the first BMX World Championships on an indoor track. For reasons of space, the track was laid out in such a way that the course crossed in two places and two of the straights were used twice, which actually did not comply with the regulations. The first corner was so tight that many riders clashed and crashed.
Below is the ranking in the final. The exact times are not known.
There are conflicting reports about the results in the cruiser. The only thing that can be reliably determined is the composition of the podium.[1]
