A 19-year-old young man was sentenced to three years in prison with a fully suspended probationary period for trafficking in cannabis resin and herbs.

On September 5, a car was checked in Ribérac. On board, two men and children in the rear. A strong smell of cannabis emanated from the car, prompting the gendarmerie to search it. They then came across two plastic bags containing 287 grams of resin and 83 grams of weed, but also 520 euros in cash. All of this would belong to the passenger, who was 18 years old at the time, while the driver would be unaware of anything. After being questioned for 23 hours, the young man was released and a preliminary investigation was opened. Despite this first warning, his little traffic continued.

In total, between January 2023 and January 2024, 56 trips to Gironde were recorded, i.e. between one or two trips per week, for 56 kilos of resin which were purchased then resold in one year, which represents 112,000 euros. However, the young man would have made one euro profit per gram, or 56,000 euros in total.

“I only have regrets and I am afraid”

“I did not realize the importance of the traffic,” he said on the stand, Friday February 2. Even if, for him, police custody was “a trigger to stop everything”, he still continued his trafficking. “I only have regrets and I’m afraid, afraid of going to prison because I would lose everything, including my girlfriend. »

For the public prosecutor, the defendant is “on a tightrope” and “is doing a bad job because it’s not just troubleshooting, it’s not far from being the role of a wholesaler”. For the defense lawyer, Me Géraldine Bénichou-Ganancia, “my client is alone in appearing, but is not alone in this case, because if there are traffickers, there are consumers”. Finally, the court sentenced him to three years in prison, fully suspended on probation, with an obligation to work, provide care and be banned from staying in Dordogne and Gironde for three years.
