19-year-old man shot in Montreal

MONTREAL | A 19-year-old man was fighting for his life Wednesday night in Montreal after being shot by a suspect who shot him from a car before fleeing.

The scene took place at the corner of Baunard and De Cannes streets, in the district of Saint-Léonard, at around 6:45 p.m.

Upon their arrival on the scene after being alerted by several calls to 911 for shots, the emergency services found the victim on the ground, hit by at least one projectile in the upper body. The young man was conscious during his transport to hospital, but was in critical condition in intensive care that evening, said Benoit Boisselle, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department.

“The police checked some surveillance camera systems […]. They saw that a dark-colored vehicle would have approached the victim, would have fired in his direction and fled to the north, ”said Agent Boisselle.

The police had not found any witnesses to the scene when they arrived, but people came forward and were subsequently encountered.

The victim is known to the police, said the SPVM. Several cartridge cases were found on the ground on site.

An investigation has been opened to try to find out a little more about this attempted murder.
