An overtaking maneuver was fatal for a 19-year-old driver. Two other people were seriously injured. According to the police, the young man was driving his car in the Main-Spessart district – from Billingshausen in the direction of Zellingen.
Collided with two cars while overtaking
At around 6.44 a.m., the 19-year-old overtook a car driving in front of him. The young man collided with a total of two vehicles on the opposite lane. The driver of one of the cars then hit the overtaken car with her vehicle. This was thrown off the road.
By rescue helicopter to the hospital
The 19-year-old was trapped in his car and had to be freed by the fire brigade. He was brought to a clinic by rescue helicopter with life-threatening injuries. He died there a little later. The drivers of the cars in the oncoming lane, a 55-year-old and a 44-year-old, suffered serious injuries. They were also taken to hospitals. The driver of the overtaken car and his co-driver were uninjured.
Road was closed for hours
By order of the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office, an expert was called in to record the accident. The Karlstadt police are investigating. State road 2299 was closed for the entire morning for the duration of the traffic accident recording and the recovery of the four vehicles.
