Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said China’s latest mission involved 10 J-16 fighter jets, four Su-30s, four H-6 bombers that can carry nuclear bombs, and an anti-submarine aircraft.

“Taiwanese warplanes were dispatched to warn Chinese aircraft, while missile systems were deployed to monitor them,” the ministry was quoted as saying CNN, Monday (6/9/2021).
According to a map provided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense, Chinese planes flew in areas closer to China than the Taiwan coast, roughly around the northeast of Pratas.
Beijing’s last large -scale mission, on June 15, involved 28 Chinese Air Force aircraft, the largest raid reported by Taiwan to date.
China often undertakes such missions to express displeasure at something Taiwan has done or to show international support for the democratically-ruled island, especially by the United States, Taiwan’s main arms provider.

It’s unclear what might have prompted China to launch its dozens of planes this time around, although US Coast Guard warships and ships sailed through the Taiwan Strait late last month last August.
China has described its activities as necessary to protect the country’s sovereignty and deal with “collusion” between Taipei and Washington.
Taiwan’s Defense Ministry warned last week that the threat from China was increasing, saying China’s armed forces could “cripple” Taiwan’s defenses and could fully monitor its deployment.
