The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announces that on March 18, at the end of the registration of political campaign participants to participate on June 9. 19 political parties are registered in the upcoming elections to the European Parliament.
On the last day of registration, the list of political campaign participants for this election was supplemented by the Political Party “Lithuanian List” and the Party “Jaunoji Lietuva”.
The list of political campaign participants currently planning to participate in the elections to the European Parliament:
1. Labor party;
2. Democratic Union “Vardas Lietuvos”;
3. Christian Union;
4. Freedom Party;
5. Liberal movement;
6. Lithuanian Christian Democracy Party;
7. Election campaign of Lithuanian Poles – Union of Christian Families;
8. Lithuanian People’s Party;
9. Lithuanian Party of Regions;
10. Lithuanian Social Democratic Party;
11. Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens;
12. Lithuanian Green Party;
13. National unification;
14. Party “Young Lithuania”;
15. Party “Freedom and Justice”;
16. Political party “Lithuanian list”;
17. Union of Nation and Justice (centrists, nationalists);
18. Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats;
19. Party of Žemaitsi.
Each political party or coalition participating in the elections to the European Parliament, if formed, can present a list of candidates in these elections, which includes at least 5 and no more than 22 candidates – no more than twice as many as Lithuania elects representatives to the European Parliament.
March 18 the future candidates of this election can already submit declaration documents in the CEC information system.
Until 12:00 on the first day of submission of application documents. The CEC had already received the application documents of the candidates of the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos”, the Freedom Party and the Liberal Movement.
Candidates nominated by parties can submit these documents until April 5. at 5 p.m.
After submitting the declaration documents, some of the representatives of the candidate political parties will have to collect 10,000 signatures of voters supporting their participation in the elections. The Election Code stipulates that it will not be necessary to collect voters’ signatures for those political parties that have participated in the last European Parliament elections and during which they have collected more votes than 10 thousand – the number of signatures that need to be collected.
This means that of the currently registered political campaign participants, it will be necessary to collect voters’ signatures:
1. For the Union of Democrats “On behalf of Lithuania”;
2. For the Christian Union;
3. For the Freedom Party;
4. Lithuanian Christian Democracy Party;
5. For the election campaign of Lithuanian Poles – Union of Christian Families;
6. Lithuanian People’s Party;
7. For national unification;
8. To the party, “Young Lithuania”;
9. For the political party “Lithuanian List”;
10. For the Žemaitsi Party.
Elections to the European Parliament will be held on June 6-9 in the member states of the European Union. Elections to the European Parliament in Lithuania will be held on June 9.
On that day, it will become clear which 11 members will be elected to represent Lithuania in the European Parliament for the next five years.
