Day after day, the new phase of vaccination against covid-19 advances in Ávila, in this case with a booster dose aimed at those over 60 and adapting to the new variants of the disease. So far, nearly 19 percent of Avila’s population has already received this dose, taking into account that it only targets a specific age group and not the entire population. In that group, in those over the age of 89, well over 80 percent have it; between 80 and 89, 70 percent; between 70 and 79, 50, and drops to thirteen percent in the 60 to 69 year old group. These percentages are expected to increase as the vaccination campaign continues and there are still calls to be made.
Vaccination is a way to fight a disease that has left 54,368 confirmed cases in Ávila since its inception, 48 of them since last Tuesday, the last day the data was offered. While there are still some positives, there is a fairly steady decline in the incidence of the disease in the over 60s, a group for which this data is offered because they are the ones that are extensively tested when symptoms occur. At the moment, the incidence in the province of Ávila is 237 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days, a drop of 60 points since Tuesday, while the seven-day figure is 113 cases. In the capital, even with a decrease, there are 312 cases at 14 days and 181 at one week.
In the province there are 218 municipalities considered to be controlled circulation taking into account the incidence. Additionally, there are nine low-risk, 13 medium-risk, five high-risk, and three very high-risk. Among the most populated locations, in the last week, in addition to 29 cases in the capital, two have been declared in El Hoyo de Pinares, El Tiemblo and Candeleda. However, where the incidence in 14 days is highest, in both cases exceeding 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, is in Las Navas del Marqués and Navaluenga, although the number of cases is not high.
