18th United Nations Youth Conference (COY 18) to be hosted in UAE by Arab Youth Center, American University of Sharjah, and Green House Research Center of NYUAD

The Arab Youth Center in Abu Dhabi, the American University of Sharjah, and the “Green House” Research Center of New York University Abu Dhabi announced their selection to officially host the upcoming 18th edition of the United Nations Youth Conference “COY 18”, scheduled to be held in November in the UAE during the period from Preceding COP 28.

The UN Youth Conference serves as a platform for climate action, capacity building and policy development training to prepare young people for their participation in international climate discussions and events.

The youth-led and organized conference aims to empower youth voices in various international arenas. It also provides youth with an opportunity to discuss and support international climate change policies and promote change at the local and international levels.

The annual conference, organized by the Youth Arm of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (YOUNGO) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is in line with the work of the Youth Arm’s global network of child and youth activists and NGOs shaping international climate change policies and representing Formal youth interests in UNFCCC processes.

This edition of the youth conference focuses on youth contributions to the three main components of the conference, namely, the policy document, capacity building and skills building workshops, which bring together the collective demands of children and youth around the world.

“As an institution committed to sustainability and climate change, we are delighted to collaborate with the youth arm of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the rest of the participants on this important platform that provides a space for young leaders to exchange ideas and develop skills,” said Julia Carlo, Acting Chair of Sustainability at the American University of Sharjah. that enables them to contribute meaningfully to climate action,” according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.

For his part, Sadiq Jarrar, Executive Director of the Arab Youth Center, said: “We seek, in cooperation with partners, to present an exceptional edition this year in the UAE to be the most inclusive and involving youth voices and the most utilization of their energies, while benefiting from valuable experiences to involve youth in previous sessions. We are committed to the strategy Action aims to transform challenges into opportunities by giving young people an opportunity to actively participate in a series of workshops and take their views and know their aspirations to ensure their effective application in the formulation of international climate policy.

For his part, Khalifa Balaith, representative of the Green House Youth Climate Research Center Club of New York University Abu Dhabi, said: “The workshops will enable young people, while opening the door to dialogue and supporting innovation, to build awareness about the importance of their role in activating the sustainable development goals, so that they become effective arms.” To combat the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change, which embodies the vision of the UAE government to create a global model for the personality of young people who lead a new stage in the decision-making process in climate action.

The youth arm of the UNFCCC and the hosts of COY18 will work with a firm shared commitment to equip global youth to engage with global climate discussions, contribute to the key components of COY18 and its official outcome document, the Global Youth Manifesto (GYS), and contribute to the organization of an international youth event.
