18th Annual Chain of Giving Event: Unloading Turkey Trucks to Fight Food Insecurity

The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) will host its 18th annual Chain of Giving event on Thursday, inviting state and local dignitaries, advocates, corporate leaders and the community to its warehouse to form a human chain and unload a turkey delivery truck for donate to families in need this holiday season. The event aims to draw attention to the persistence of food insecurity in the state and GBFB’s Hunger-Free Vacation campaign.

Presenting sponsor is Affiliated Managers Group (AMG) with title sponsor National Grid. The event will feature photo and video opportunities following a formal speaking program including remarks from Governor Healey, Mayor Wu and Catherine D’Amato of GBFB.

GBFB’s annual report on food insecurity reflects that 1 in 3 Massachusetts adults continue to face food insecurity, along with an alarming rise in child food insecurity and growing demand for food assistance, as GBFB partners report a 12 percent increase in people served. In addition to this, grocery prices continue to rise, the housing crisis persists, and student loan payments have resumed, all of which contribute to a growing situation of food insecurity.
