A 33-year-old man from Rotterdam was sentenced to eighteen years in prison by the court in Dordrecht on Tuesday for the shooting of a fellow citizen (30) after an argument about a friend request on Facebook. The victim was riddled with fourteen bullets.
The shooting took place on November 6 last year in a residential area in the Putsebocht in Rotterdam.
Enchi Alberto would have sent Sybran B.’s girlfriend a friend request via Facebook. The suspect is said to have become so angry about this that he has fired on Alberto with an automatic weapon.
“The victim was in a car with the doors and windows closed and had no chance when the shooter approached him armed,” the court said. In the verdict it is said that the suspect is very charged that, if the friend request was indeed the only motive, he would “take such a futile reason for a weapon”.
The man himself has maintained that it was about self-defense. The court states that it is extra painful for the next of kin that he tries to pass the blame on to the victim.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) previously demanded eighteen years in prison and said on Tuesday that it was a “nice statement for the relatives”.
