18-year-old young woman detained for abandoning newborn in Mapunda – Jornal OPaís

An 18-year-old girl was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in the Mapunda neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Lubango, capital of the province of Huíla, for abandoning a newborn baby.

The incident occurred on the 9th of this month, when the 18-year-old girl, whose identity was not revealed to us, gave birth to a male baby.

After she gave birth, she decided to get rid of the newborn, for reasons so far unknown, throwing him into the pit of a neighboring house.

According to the spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Service in Huíla, Inspector Segunda Quitumba, the baby was saved by the owner of the house where the baby belonged, after he was surprised by the cries during the early hours of the 9th.

“At dawn, one of the neighbors woke up due to the sound of a child crying, he woke up and went to the place where the cries were coming from, when he got there, he identified that it was a newborn and with the help of an iron , managed to rescue the baby still alive”, he said.

Upon finding the baby still alive, as explained by the SIC Spokesperson, the individual immediately contacted the police authorities who called the medical team at a local health center.

“After this individual contacted us, we had to call the Hospital Pediátrico do Lubango, where he received medical assistance, but on the 10th, the baby went into convulsions and unfortunately ended up dying, so we started with some investigations that culminated with the arrest of the young woman at 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 13th)”, he revealed.

On the other hand, Segundo Quitumba, said that the institution he represents continues to work to discover the real reasons that led the 18-year-old girl to abandon her own son.
