An 18-year-old boy, born in Faro, was found dead at home in Guarda, where he was attending the 1st year of his degree in Marketing. The cause of death is not known for now.
According to the regional press, Rafael Alentejano, whose body was found on Saturday, was the son of the former president of ACRAL – Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region and of the current coordinator of the services of the AIHSA (Association of Hoteliers and Similar Industries of the Algarve).
The Academic Association of Guarda declared academic mourning for the death of the young man “during the next 3 days, 21, 22 and 23 November, on these dates all academic activities are suspended”.
Faro City Council, through Facebook, also expressed “the deepest regret for the tragic passing of the young Rafael Alentejano”.
“After having completed his entire academic and sporting career in the city of Faro, having been an athlete at Sporting Clube Farense from 6 to 18 years old, Rafael Alentejano was currently doing his university education in the city of Guarda. In this moment of deep pain, the Municipality of Faro extends its most heartfelt condolences to all its family and friends”, reads.
Farense’s directors, on the other hand, addressed “the most heartfelt condolences” to the family of their former athlete. “At this naturally difficult time, we leave our feelings of comfort to family and friends,” they wrote on social media.
Cristóvão Norte, president of the Municipal Assembly of Faro, announced that he will start the next session with a minute of silence in memory of the «two young people who lost their lives at an early age», in recent days, Beatriz Lopes, 17, victim of an accident in mota, and Rafael Alentejano.
