It doesn’t pay to steal data and cheat big companies. An eighteen-year-old Englishman, a hacker who was able to access top-secret information and cause almost $10 million in damage. At first he was supposed to be sentenced for cybercrime to life imprisonment, finally the court handed down a sentence of order to stay in a psychiatric hospital. Arion Kurtaj is a young man with autism spectrum disorder, at a young age he became a member of an international gang called Lapsus$. This gang is responsible for stealing 90 clips from the upcoming game GTA 6, as well as hacking the systems of companies such as Nvidia or Uber.

These were the words of the defendant after hacking into Rockstar Games’ internal system on Slack. He subsequently published the clips and source code from the game on a forum, four days later he was arrested and held in custody pending trial. However, these events were not his first act, Kurtaj was previously investigated for hacking the Nvidia system. The most interesting thing about this case is that his latest attack happened while he was out on bail with a court ban on internet use and his laptop was confiscated. Despite that, to an active young man managed to get valuable information at the hotel, only with the help of Amazon Firestick, TV and mobile phone.

In this particular trial, one more member, who is only 17 years old and whose identity is being withheld due to his young age, was found guilty. Except they were blackmailing big companies, they also stole finances from individuals through crypto wallets, they were globally referred to as “digital bandits” and their actions made history.
