18 seconds lost, great work for Barca; Waiting to hear FIFA’s decision; This is how it happened

Barcelona’s director of football Matu Alemany has claimed the club missed out on signing LA Galaxy right-back Julian Araujo due to a ‘computer error’. Barca’s planned signing on the closing day of the transfer window went ahead due to a technical glitch.

According to Alamani, the delay in registering the paperwork was just 18 seconds. He told journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t GOAL):

“Due to a computer error, we were 18 seconds late to sign. Now we are waiting to know the decision of FIFA. Although the player is currently signed on loan, Barcelona had the opportunity to make it permanent. However, Araujo will now remain at LA Galaxy unless FIFA assesses the situation in Barca’s favour.

Araujo is an active defender who likes to get involved in his team’s build-up play. He has scored two goals and provided 14 assists in 109 appearances for LA Galaxy.
